Kabataan, Anakpawis condemns order of deportation of Australian nun

Kabataan partylist Representative Sarah Elago said that the Duterte administration does not seem to stop its attack towards activists, may it be foreign activists like Australian nun Patricia Fox.

Both parties condemn the Bureau of Immigration’s orders to deport Fox and the cancellation of her missionary visa even though it should still be effective until September 2018.

Duterte must be really that insistent to continue hitting on hapless individuals despite the people’s backlash,” said Elago.

We salute Sr. Fox for her relentless service to the exploited and oppressed. Rather than the big fish in society, it is people like Sr. Fox who faces constant repression and tyranny from the ruthless dictator."

Duterte may crackdown on missionaries and supporters, but all he only does is strengthen the people’s unity and resistance against his dictatorship,” she added.

Anakpawis partylist Rep Ariel Casilao agrees with Elago saying that the decision of the Bureau of Immigration is unreasonable. She said that this is simply the administration’s way to take down its critics.

Sr. Pat Fox’s deportation threat is a clear case of the Duterte government’s crackdown not only on dissent and critics but also against advocates who campaign for the welfare of poor Filipinos. Her case is basically an indirect threat against foreign citizens supporting legitimate campaigns of Filipino poor sectors, especially farmers and indigenous peoples”, said Casilao.

She also encourages the public to join in their call to protect Fox from deportation as the basis for her deportation has no reasonable evidence.

The public should step up participation in the discourse by helping to expose the case of Sr. Pat Fox that her advocacy of helping the poor and marginalized was behind the attack against her right to stay in the Philippines to continue her missionary work”, added Casilao.
