Janet Garin On Dengvaxia: "Nagkamali Po Talaga Ako."

Former Health Secretary Janet Garin admitted on Friday that she met with officials of French drugmaker Sanofi Pasteur in 2015 to discuss the dengue vaccine Dengvaxia contrary to her earlier statement that she did not.

"Tama po 'yun, nagkamali po talaga ako kasi I was being asked on a dinner that happened 2 years ago,"

Garin confirmed that she did go to Paris last May 2015 and dine with Sanofi officials but denied to have discussed the Dengvaxia Vaccine with them.
As to her statement in May 2017, she only met with the French Health Minister and that there's no malice in it.

"Kung may malisya 'yun, bakit mayroon tayong kasamahan from DFA (If there was malice in that meeting, how come there was someone there from the Department of Foreign Affairs)?"

"Kung mayroon akong tinatago, I will not do it in the presence of DFA. Alam naman natin na transparent 'yan,"

Asked if the pricing of the vaccines was discussed during the meeting, Garin nodded and added that talks on the planned dengue vaccination program had started as early as 2010.

'Yung una po kasi talagang intensyon eh lalabas po ba 'yung bakuna? Kailan ba? Magkano ba talaga presyo? (Would the vaccine be released? When? How much?)”

Garin was the health chief when the Philippines licensed dengue vaccine in December 2015, among other countries.

The vaccine has already been given to about 830,000 children in Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, Central Luzon and Central Visayas, as of November this year.

The Department of Health last week suspended the vaccination program after Sanofi issued a warning that its world-first dengue vaccine may cause severe symptoms or worsen the disease in people who have not infected with dengue virus before.

Garin said that Sanofi had not given her any warning about the dengue vaccine Dengvaxie while she was secretary. And that she's ready to face a Senate investigation into the matter.
