Atty. Bruce Rivera: Never lose hope in Duterte

Lawyer Bruce Rivera expressed his never ending hope for President Rodrigo Duterte in his Facebook post a couple of years ago.

Rivera knew that Duterte was not one for fancy presidential campaigns and false promises. That he’d never give you lip service and that he never liked the idea of such dirty hands financing his campaign.

But I am one of those who suffers from voters fatigue. I AM JUST TIRED OF VOTING FOR ANYONE WHO WAS GIVEN THE CHANCE AT A NATIONAL OFFICE AND LEFT OUR COUNTRY THE SAME WAY WHEN MOST OF US FOUND IT.” Rivera emotionally said.

The Lawyer pointed out that we barely improved as a nation with only improvement being the increase in economic numbers. We are still tied to our traditional concept of nationalism and that one’s morality depends on one’s family name and dialect.

Where corruption is justified in the name of family,” he said.

Many could be done as VP, Senator, cabinet secretary to change the nation or at least make it better. And I am just too tired of the promises. I have friends within the inner circle of most presidentiables and I know it will not sit well with them. But I am saying this with the purest of intentions. This time, I am taking the risk,” Rivera then confessed.

“Duterte is a risk. He has no national experience. He has a vigilante concept of justice. He is not politically mannered. He admits his weaknesses. He has no patience. And most of all, he does not want the job,” Rivera added.

Yet during the elections, Duterte became the leader that the people chose, like Jon Snow from the Game of Thrones, but bolder, fiercer and incredibly decisive.

…I am desperate for something new. I am tired of the present set-up. Ipapangako ang bagong umaga. Pero bagong lipunan ang pinangako dati kaya bakit ako matutuwa sa bagong umaga. At walang nagbago. Corrupt pa din ang dapat corrupt. Napalitan lang ng mas bata ang namumuno.”

In only a couple of years, a great leader Duterte’s become. Taking away positions to those who were corrupt and replacing them with people who will fight tooth and nail, against all odds, for the betterment of our nation.

Rivera chose to support Duterte because he wanted to try something new, for all those past politicians were too easily likable and everyone voted for them. He then asked, “…see where it got us?”

The devoted lawyer  ended his post with this statement,

…if he does not run, iboboto ko pa rin siya kahit wala sa listahan. I will never lose hope. That one day, even after I will pass on, our countrymen will elect a leader because they truly love the Philippines.”

“I WILL NEVER LOSE HOPE FOR A DUTERTE

I know it was never a PR move that Duterte never wanted the Presidency. That he did not like the idea that people with dirty hands will finance his campaign. That he is not the traditional politician who will tell you what you want to hear. That he does not have the machinery to launch a presidential campaign to buy the uninformed and uneducated.

But I am one of those who suffers from voters fatigue. I AM JUST TIRED OF VOTING FOR ANYONE WHO WAS GIVEN THE CHANCE AT A NATIONAL OFFICE AND LEFT OUR COUNTRY THE SAME WAY WHEN MOST OF US FOUND IT.

Did we improve as a nation? Honestly, we are the same nation who allowed Bonifacio to be butchered and Gen. Luna reduced to a footnote in history. Our economic numbers are up and I can feel it because I am lucky to be middle class but we are still a nation whose concept of nationalism and morality ends and begins with the family name and the dialect being spoken. Where corruption is justified in the name of family.

Many could be done as VP, Senator, cabinet secretary to change the nation or at least make it better. And I am just too tired of the promises. I have friends within the inner circle of most presidentiables and I know it will not sit well with them. But I am saying this with the purest of intentions. This time, I am taking the risk.

Duterte is a risk. He has no national experience. He has a vigilante concept of justice. He is not politically mannered. He admits his weaknesses. He has no patience. And most of all, he does not want the job.

But I am desperate for something new. I am tired of the present set-up. Ipapangako ang bagong umaga. Pero bagong lipunan ang pinangako dati kaya bakit ako matutuwa sa bagong umaga. At walang nagbago. Corrupt pa din ang dapat corrupt. Napalitan lang ng mas bata ang namumuno.

So this is my conscience speaking as a Filipino. Not as a Bedan. Not as a Bisaya. As a Filipino. I will support Duterte because I want to try something new. And why should I take that risk?

We have been safe in the past voting for those who can win, those who understand us, those who like us, those who are poor like us, those whose fathers and mothers served us and those we see on TV acting all wholesome and cute. And see where it got us?

And if he does not run, iboboto ko pa rin siya kahit wala sa listahan. I will never lose hope. That one day, even after I will pass on, our countrymen will elect a leader because they truly love the Philippines.”
