Iloilo City Mayor Mabilog debunks claims he’s fled to Japan

It was Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog’s spokesman who cleared out that Jed and his family are not fleeing the scene now that Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido will be reassigned to Iloilo City.

Atty. Mark Piad, Jed’s spokesperson, explained that the Mayor left for an official trip to Japan to attend the CityNet conference, which is held annuall and which, Mabilog claims, he gets an invite regularly.

Rumors, however, are circulated that Jed’s wife, Marivic Mabilog, and their children have left Iloilo City to go abroad.

President Rodrigo Duterte had initially divulged about Jed that he owns a “grandiose” house in Iloilo City that’s said to be bigger than the Malacañang Palace. A lifestyle check was ordered by Duterte on Mabilog.

Duterte firmly believes Jed amassed this much amount.

It was because of drugs. Where else would he get the money from, his business?” the President said.

However, Jed’s side all attempt to debunk Duterte’s “assumptions” and prove that they do not have ill-gotten wealth.

Muingon sila, ‘Ang kanang mga pobre.’ Ay, ang mga pobre ma’y magdistribute . Alang-alang mga drug lord na mga dato na man na. Pareha anang Mabilog. Eh ‘di tua sa Japan. Nisibat na to, pahayahay. (They’ll say, ‘Those are only the poor. But the poor are the ones who will distribute. It’s not the drug lords who will do that because they’re already very rich, just like Mabilog who has escaped to Japan and living luxuriously there’),” the President said.

As for when Jed goes back home, there is no schedule yet.
