Anti-Drilon politician accuses Sen. Drilon of persecution

Senator Franklin Drilon is being pinpointed by his fellow hometown politician as having a hand in the cleansing of ranks in Iloilo City in order to rid anti-Drilon supporters.

Former Iloilo provincial administrator Manuel “Boy” Mejorada was filed a graft charge along with four former members of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) for the alleged purchase of overpriced laptops.

These laptops, Acer Aspire models, amounted to Php 99,000 and was purchased through “direct shopping” in Seven Seven Trading.

The Ombudsman found the single bidder purchase of the laptop as a “a violation of the Government Procurement Act and has caused undue injury to the provincial government.”

The respondents had to pay Php 30,000 as bail.

Mejorada, however, denies the allegations and, instead, calls out Drilon as having possibly had a hand in the controversy.

The Notice of Disallowance issued by the Commission on Audit (COA) did not contain Mejorada’s name as those involved in the case of the overpriced laptops.

This led Mejorada to believe that, as Drilon critic, the senator was determined to taint the name of the former administrator.

This is a machination of Senator Drilon with the help of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales. Drilon wants to destroy my credibility and divert the people’s minds from his gargantuan corruption. They want to make life difficult for me. But I am unfazed. I will gain more strength and energy to carry on my fight against Drilon’s corruption,” Mejorada said.

The former administrator also cited Morales as responsible for dismissing the plunder case of Drilon over the overpriced construction of the Iloilo Convention Center.
