Sen. Miriam Santiago’s sister shows support for parlia gov’t

The late Senator Miriam Santiago’s sister, Paula Defensor Knack, wrote an open letter to President Rodrigo Duterte showing support and pleading him to change the legislature to a unicameral or parliament.

Knack opines that having only two houses in Congress is prone to corruption and other high crimes committed by many Filipino politicians. This was also in reaction to the presidential appointees that the Commission on Appointment (CA) rejected.

Santiago had proposed for a change to a unicameral legislature during her time. And now, Knack and her supporters are urging Duterte to execute that change.

In her full post on Facebook, Knack said,

"VIRAL !! ..............A Letter to Pres. Duterte....

IN HONOR OF SEN. MIRIAM, WE REITERATE her proposal FOR A UNICAMERAL LEGISLATURE. 2 houses in Congress is simply too much idiocy, bribery, and inefficiency !

Look, everyone is falling over each other trying to be covered by TV Cameras and their questions are so stupid, even grade school children can ask the same questions."

Knack’s open letter reads,

"Dear Pres. Duterte,

Please change the legislature to unicameral/parliamentary/

We are spending millions a day for Congress so that corrupt legislators can decide our future. How many more of your appointees will CA hold hostage? It stresses the country. Members of Congress need a lifestyle check within and outside the country. Their shopping sprees belie their income. They are anathema to progress. We don’t need another detective govt. agency. We need Congress that does what it is supposed to do.

Thank you.
