Duterte warns Iloilo City Mayor to end drug ties

Renowned for being one of the main gateways of illegal drugs in the country, particularly in Western Visayas, President Rodrigo Duterte was prompted to warn narcopolitician Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog to end his drug ties.

"Sa totoo lang, ngayon na wala pang nangyari, baka gusto mo nang tapusin ang connection mo," said Duterte after announcing that top drug cop Jovie Espenido was to be reassigned to Mabilog’s city.

Duterte emphasized that Mabilog consistently comes up in the roster of alleged narcopoliticians who are responsible for the proliferation of illegal drugs.

I'll tell you again, Mayor, dinadawit ka. For the longest time, updated list, nandiyan ka," said Duterte.

Iloilo City has been marked as one of the most drug-infested cities in the country. Duterte blames this on the mayor being an alleged protector of drug lords.

Do not protect, do not call the police, ganito na ganito. Do not just mess up with the – kasi 'pagka nandiyan, drug lord ka rin eh, mapipilitan ako. Bakit ka nag-protektor?" said Duterte.

On the other hand, Mabilog welcomes the reassignment of Espenido in Iloilo City. The drug cop has been popular for his staunch and determined approach in drug operations. Mabilog believes that the city’s police force can learn from Espenido’s experience.
