Rep. Abubakar Tan suggests Martial Law expands to whole PH

As the House held their joint session on the extension of Martial Law in Mindanao until December 31, 2017, KUSUG-TAUSUG party-list Representative Shernee Abubakar Tan suggested that it expands throughout the whole country.

While the House reacted in jest, Tan insisted that rebel groups are not only concentrated in Mindanao. Safety and military measures is needed also in Luzon and Visayas.

Ang mga rebeldo grupo, hindi lang sila sa Mindanao. Meron din sa Luzon, sa Visayas, kagaya ng mga NPA (New People's Army) na recently nagkaroon sila ng clash with our government troops," she said.

During the session, Tan voted yes to the date extension and expressed the need for Martial Law's total coverage.

"KUSUG-TAUSUG party-list votes yes, and KUSUG-TAUSUG party-list suggests that this body extends martial law not just in Mindanao but also throughout the entire country," she said.

However, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana deems it unnecessary as it could hamper current security operations.

Hindi mangyayari yan…dahil kaakibat na yan sa trabaho namin sa security operations,” he said.

After the session, the vote for extension of Martial Law won 261 yeses just before its lapse on July 22, 2017.
