Marawi soldiers shed tears as they bid farewell to loved ones

The Iloilo Airport was witness to a crying crowd of government soldiers saying their goodbyes to loved ones before being sent off to Marawi City to back up the military force in the ongoing terrorist siege.

Total of 428 soldiers and 19 officials from the 82nd Infantry Battalion (IB) boarded a C-130 plane to travel across lands and sea to get to war-torn Marawi.

The soldiers’ loved ones were also emotional of the parting and the risks the government troops have to face as they encounter the Maute group.

Sinumpaan namin na ipaglaban ang bayan, at protektahan ang Sambayanang Pilipino. Dalawang bagay lang ang mangyayari, makakauwi ng patay o makakauwi ng buhay dala ang tagumpay,” one of the soldiers said during the send-off.

Yearning and fear filled the hearts of the 82nd IB as the rising clash of the government and Maute prove to be fatal having already taken many lives, civilians, soldiers, and terrorists alike.

Too proud of this unit 82nd IB family. Guardians of freedom. Please do comeback alive. We will pray for you all. God bless!” a netizen Marjorie Hervo shared as support to the recently deployed troops.

Private netizens and local news companies alike posted videos of the emotional send-off at the Iloilo Airport.
