Duterte: Maute group protectors, financiers to be arrested soon


President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday evening claimed drug personalities providing funds and protection for the Maute group is going to be arrested soon.

“In the days ahead we will arrest all of them. Number one ‘yung nag-produce ng shabu, nagbigay ng pera sa terorista, they will all be arrested, whether politicians or not,” President Rodrigo Roa Duterte claimed throughout his visit within Cagayan de Oro City.

“We will charge you accordingly. We will detain you more than ‘yung six days-six days. There will be at once an inquest and if there is a probable cause, I would like them to be detained forever,” he included.

Duterte didn’t give names, however explained there are numerous drug personalities within Marawi City, where over TWO HUNDRED Maute group members are believed to be still holed up more than a week following the ISIS-inspired group’s attack last May 23.

“Marami ‘yan dito sa Marawi, kalakasan. Kaya nga ang supply ng shabu dito sa Cagayan [de Oro] hindi maubus-ubos eh,” the President included.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa stated at the media conference on Monday that this Maute group, drug lords as well as politicians involved with illegal drugs are usually protecting each other.

Dela Rosa explained that even before he assumed as PNP chief, he received information which drug lords coming from Metro Manila, Luzon and also the Visayas attended a “drug summit” together with the Maute group and narcopoliticians.

On Wednesday, PNP Chief “bato” explained the PNP is going to take advantage of Duterte’s declaration of martial law within Mindanao to address the problem of narcopolitics in the southern region.

Duterte placed Mindanao under martial law after the Maute group’s attack in Marawi City.
