CEO of big-time online news site Rappler Maria Ressa threatened by “lone voice” of Thinking Pinoy

Rappler founder Maria Ressa was at a Global Editors Network (GEN) event last week performing a speech that at some point revealed the “vicious attacks” she was receiving from blog site Thinking Pinoy (TP).

TP eagerly responded to Ressa’s speech by citing back her previous criticisms against it saying that blogs like TP have no real influence or substance that could be significant to the public.

Ressa added that the likes of TP have “no real following”, and thus are nothing more than just “lone voices”.

With that argument at hand, TP mocked Ressa’s (GEN) speech by highlighting that she was threatened by a blog that she considers a “lone voice”.

Considering the wealthy sponsors and ad funding Rappler receives, TP claims that Ressa needs to see a psychotherapist for appearing insecure of a measly funded TP.

TP even emphasized how its founder has to make ends meet “in the searing Manila heat” because its readers cannot pay for all the funding needed to support the blog.

Despite this background, CEO of a well-funded news organization, Ressa, remains wary of the likes of TP seeing it as an actual threat.

TP, on the other hand, simply retorts that Ressa needs to get rid of the voices in her head.

In its full post on Facebook, TP said,

Several months ago, Rappler zookeeper Maria Ressa said independent social media publishers like ThinkingPinoy are just "gaming the system", similar to what Inday Espina-Varona called "manufactured noise". That is, Ressa thinks our stats are simply fabricated and that we do not exert real and substantial influence over Filipinos.

Ressa, like Varona, essentially claims that we do not have a real following, i.e. we are just lone voices.

Then last week, Ressa suddenly showed up in whatever European city that is, proselytizing in front of the Global Editors Network against the vicious attacks from ThinkingPinoy.

Okay, hold on one sec.

Ressa, with the hundreds of millions of funding you get from foreigners, you are still so insecure that you still feel threatened by, according to you, a lone voice who, by the way, receives so little funding from his own readers that he sometimes has to work in the searing Manila heat without airconditioning just to make ends meet?

Darling, you need not wage a war against what you think is "fake news": all you need to do is see a psychotherapist.

Get rid of those voices in your head. They're nasty.

And lastly, SAY NO TO DRUGS!"
