Duterte lashes at former DFA Sec. for slighting West PH Sea dispute: 'Bakit hindi mo ginawa noong panahon mo?'

Former Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario had criticized the way President Rodrigo Duterte failed to implement the landmark Hague ruling on the West Philippine Sea.

As a retort, Duterte lashed at De Rosario saying, "Wala na nga sa opisina, itong si Del Rosario, daldal nang daldal. Bakit hindi mo ginawa noong panahon mo?"

It was during Del Rosario’s term when the landmark case of The Hague ruling favored the Philippines over ownership of the West Philippine Sea after it deemed China’s reef building on the waters as environmentally damaging and violated the 9-dash line.

Del Rosario was aggravated when Duterte made a nonchalant remark about selling the islands of the West Philippine Sea to China.

The former secretary believes that the President should have enforced The Hague ruling instead of flip-flopping on his foreign policy.

"Si Del Rosario at si Justice Carpio [sabi] mahina ang dating ko na hindi ko ginawa 'yung arbitral award as the leverage," said Duterte, adding that it was Del Rosario and other liable officials that time who were responsible for “allowing” China to carry out its reef building.

"Instead of filing a case, the Philippines should have called America in an urgent conference and the rest of the ASEAN countries claiming a part of that vast sea there to discuss what we will do and to nip it in the bud," Duterte said.

Duterte blames it on Del Rosario that the West Philippine Sea is currently being eased into China.

All these countries, he said, could have organized a "transnational force" to talk to China and say, "why are you digging when, as a matter of fact, even without the arbitral ruling or anything at all, the constant law of the sea is that you cannot build a manmade structure?"

The President recently arrived from a meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping.
