Be Careful When Being Intimate Because Kissing Might Give You This Disease!

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection is a s*xually transmitted disease (STD) that can be transferred from person to person through the exchange of infected body fluids. HPV is the most common STD in the United States. It can also lead to throat and mouth cancers. The worst part is that many people aren’t aware they have HPV because it doesn’t show early signs and symptoms.

According to several studies, open-mouth kissing and tongue kissing may be linked to HPV transmission. In 2014, a large team of researchers conducted a study and found that when someone's partner had oral HPV, they had a high risk of being diagnosed with oral HPV themselves.

In Kenya, several people got admitted to the Kisii Level 5 Hospital after being diagnosed with HPV. They experienced symptoms such as sore throat, headache, high fever, vomiting and abdominal pains. The Kenyan community, as well as students of Kisii University, then warned everyone that the outbreak might have been caused by kissing someone who was infected.

“We were told that public health officers from this area are working round the clock to know the root cause of this. But we are being advised even on WhatsApp (a social networking app) groups to avoid kissing and exchanging body fluids,” a Kisii University public health student stated.

Reports said that the disease is already spreading in Kenya as well as in Southern parts of Africa. Health experts fear that it might eventually spread to most parts of the continent, too.
